Immersed in the Impressionists’ Normandy – Antonella Razete
With the exhibition Impressionist Treasures: Monet and Normandy, featuring just under one hundred paintings, the Federico II Foundation presents a thoughtful and original exploration of Impressionism, focusing on the magnetic allure that the light of northern France held for the artists of this extraordinary movement—one that profoundly shaped the course of Art History. Theexhibition offers a captivating journey through the works of forty-five artists, highlighting not only celebrated masters such as Monet, Renoir, Corot, and Bonnard, but also lesser-known painters of outstanding quality.
Visitors will be immersed in a highly evocative atmosphere enhanced by cutting-edge technologies, most notably through full-vault projections in the Duke of Montalto Halls of works connected to the theme ‘Impressionist Skies.’ Thanks to artificial intelligence and the creative vision of our innovation partners, original historical images will be brought vividly to life, guiding visitors on a journey that recreates the atmosphere of the past and fosters a deep sense of identification with what once unfolded before the eyes of the ‘painters of light.’
The exhibition also delves into the core principles of a radically innovative approach to color—an essential foundation of the immersive atmospheres of Impressionist painting. This approach proved deeply influential for Sicilian view painters such as Francesco Lojacono, who, through their focus on light and their study of color, became guardians and witnesses of the beauty of Sicily’s landscapes.
Finally, the presentation of Impressionist Treasures at the Royal Palace of Palermo tells a story that could find no more fitting setting than a monument whose period of greatest splendor occurred in the Middle Ages under the Normans themselves. This ambitious project was made possible through the combined efforts of the Foundation’s internal resources and thecontributions of external partners of the highest caliber.
